Vilakazi lauds Usuthu’s character

AmaZulu FC reserve team head coach Sboniso Vilakazi

AmaZulu FC reserve team head coach Sboniso Vilakazi praised his side’s character following a DStv Diski Challenge match against Royal AM over the weekend.

Usuthu claimed a 1-0 win courtesy of an own goal from a well-worked cross by Siphephelo Majola at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

“We showed character and we were very tactically disciplined in terms of structure and shape,” Vilakazi said.

“When losing a player like Siyanda Hlangabeza in the middle of the park just 10 minutes into the game, then you know you have to make a forced change.

“But looking at the players, they gave everything on the field of play which is very good for them and it is also a lesson to learn.”

It was Usuthu’s second win of the season in the local top flight reserve league and it elevated the team to the third spot on the league standings having accumulated six points from two matches.

“There are a few players who are new that are coming from our under-17 side and they are still struggling because of the intensity and with tactical discipline, but somewhere, somehow that is the only way they are going to learn,” Vilakazi continued.

“The players also showed character in our previous game against Chippa United when we lost 1-0 at home, the performance that we gave on the day we were quite happy with it.

“Even today when we were playing against Royal AM it wasn’t easy you could see the players showing their emotions during the game, but we were able to get that three points which is very good.”

AmaZulu will now take on Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban on Sunday as they look to make it two wins a row in the DStv Diski Challenge.
