AmaZulu FC reserve team coach Siboniso Vilakazi lauded his side’s performance following a win over Swallows FC this past weekend.
Goals from Lwandile Ngcobo and Sphamandla Zikhali earned Usuthu a 2-1 win over Amaswaiswai in a DStv Diski Challenge match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.
Vilakazi explained why he made a tactical substitution in the early stages of the second-half – pulling out Wandile Shelembe and introducing Mlungisi Mahaye.
“It was a very tough game. The most important thing is the determination displayed by the players and they managed to implement the game plan that we had worked on,” Vilakazi said.
“So, the thing we didn’t do well in the first-half was that our wingers didn’t exploit the space that we created. That is something we fixed at half-time.
“We introduced Mahaye who replaced Shelembe then we moved [Siphephelo] Majola to the right wing and Mahaye moved to the left wing. We then started to be more effective going forward.”
Usuthu climbed up to the fourth spot on the DStv Diski Challenge log standings following the win over Swallows and Vilakazi was pleased with his team’s display.
“We won the game 2-1 having conceded after an error from our side as it was an own-goal. So it tells you that in terms of performance we are very consistent,” he added.
“It is the first time that we have won back to back matches this year, but the thing that makes me happy the most is the performance of the team.
“We are one of the teams which are doing very well in terms of improving as individuals (players) and as a collective.”
AmaZulu will be looking to make it three wins in a row when they lock horns with Chippa United on Saturday.
