George Maluleka of AmaZulu FC

New AmaZulu FC star George Maluleka has set his sights on winning the MTN8 trophy after joining the club.

The veteran midfielder was recently signed by Usuthu after he parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns where he spent two seasons.

“I am very happy to have joined AmaZulu FC. It is a new journey for me, a new chapter. So, I am looking forward to it,” Maluleka said.

“I am very excited. I was received warmly by the players, coaches, president and everyone. I am pleased to have joined this club.”

The Tembisa-born player wants to contribute to Usuthu’s success having won four major trophies with Sundowns including two DStv Premiership titles.

“AmaZulu are a very ambitious club. AmaZulu is historically a big club. I feel that I still have a lot to offer. I hope I will be able to contribute to the team’s success,” he continued.

“[To the AmaZulu fans] please come in numbers, this season is going to be special. I feel the team has a lot of quality, you can see by the signings the club has made.”

The 33-year-old, who also won the league and cup double with Kaizer Chiefs in the 2014-15 season, believes Usuthu have what it takes to win the MTN8 trophy.

“Pre-season has started and everything is looking good. We have a couple of weeks to prepare. We are gunning for the MTN8, hopefully, we will start off on a good note and go on to lift the trophy,” he added.

“We can then build from that, I am very confident that the guys are more than able to do whatever it takes to win that trophy.”

AmaZulu will take on Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter-final encounter and the competition is scheduled to start on the weekend of 12 August 2022.

The PSL will announce the dates, venue and kick-off times in due course.
