Usuthu’s 2021-22 season in numbers

AmaZulu FC wrapped up their 2021-22 DStv Premiership campaign with a KwaZulu-Natal Derby clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows last week.

We take a closer look at the numbers and stats which summed up the Usuthu’s campaign.

7 – The final league position of coach Brandon Truter’s side attained on the 2021-22 DStv Premiership log.

8 – The number of victories recorded by Usuthu in the league season – the fewest of any team which finished in the top half of the league standings.

5 – The number of defeats suffered by AmaZulu in the league campaign. Only champions Mamelodi Sundowns registered fewer defeats than Usuthu with three losses.

24 – The points difference between 1972 National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) champions, Usuthu, (41) and Sundowns (65).

16 – The Durban-based side kept 16 clean sheets this season. Only Sundowns registered more clean sheets than Usuthu with 17.

2-0 – The 1992 Coca Cola Cup champions’ biggest victory was a 2-0 triumph over Cape Town City at home on 7 November 2021.

2-0 – Usuthu’s’ heaviest defeat was a 2-0 away to Sekhukhune United on 27 October 2021 and SuperSport United on 5 March 2022.

27 – Makhehleni Makhaula, Tapelo Xoki and Veli Mothwa made the most league appearances for AmaZulu this season, playing in 27 matches.

7 – Luvuyo Memela was also the KwaZulu-Natal giants’ top scorer, with seven goals.

3 – Andre De Jong was Usuthu’s most creative player – providing three assists.
