AmaZulu FC suffered a 5-0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership encounter played at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Thursday night.
Therefore, Usuthu moved down to the 10th spot in the standings and they will be determined to return to winning ways against ABC Motsepe League side Mighty Eagles in the Nedbank Cup on 28 January.
The two teams struggled to create clear-cut chances in the opening exchanges, but this changed after the half-hour mark. Khomotjo Lekoloane was afforded space to beat goalkeeper Veli Mothwa with a low shot to hand Stellenbosch a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute.
Mothwa then became a very busy man between the sticks. The Bafana Bafana international made three saves to deny Andre De Jong, Chumani Butsaka and Ashley Cupido between the 41st minute and 44th minute. Stellenbosch were leading 1-0 at the interval.
Stellies ran riot after the restart as Devin Titus made it 2-0 after being set up by the lively Butsaka in the 57th minute. The goal rattled the AmaZulu defence as Butsaka put his name on the score sheet on the hour-mark to make it 3-0 to the visitors.
Titus continued to be a constant threat to Usuthu’s defence and he grabbed his brace in the 66th minute to make it 4-0. The 5-0 victory was sealed by Ibraheem Olalekan Jabaar who netted in the 80th minute with Mothwa well-beaten.
