AmaZulu FC have reinforced their striking department with the signing of Sere Junior Dion.
The Ivorian frontman has joined the KwaZulu-Natal giants from Marumo Gallants ahead of the 2022-23 DStv Premiership season resumption.
AmaZulu club chairman Sandile Zungu explained why the club signed Dion who has inked a long-term contract.
“We have had some misfortune of quite a few injuries in our striking force which has debilitated our capabilities,” Zungu said.
“So, we saw it necessary to bring in someone who is fit for purpose, [and] it is someone that our coach Fohloza (Romain Folz) is very familiar with.
“He (Folz) feels that he (Dion) will hit the ground running and help accomplish his mission and that person is none other than Dion Sere Junior,” he continued.
“So, he has been brought in to assist AmaZulu to convert goalscoring opportunities into goals.”
Dion played an instrumental role in helping Gallants reach last season’s Nedbank Cup final – scoring four goals from five appearances in the competition.
Zungu hopes the 28-year-old helps Usuthu move up on the DStv Premiership standings and ultimately, finish in the top four this season.
“We need to climb up the ladder. We believe that where we are at right now (seventh spot) is not our home,” the club boss explained.
“We finished seventh last season which was terrible by all measures and standards. We are a top team and we want to be in the top four by the end of the season.
“We have to go to the market to get people who will assist us to accomplish that. He (Dion) is coming into a very strong squad,” he added.
“He is coming in to bolster, assist, strengthen and help resolve some of the issues that we have faced this season.”
Usuthu are scheduled to face Sekhukhune United on Saturday at Peter Mokaba Stadium as the DStv Premiership resumes.
