Usuthu pumped up for KZN Derby clash

AmaZulu FC reserve team coach Siboniso Vilakazi

AmaZulu FC reserve team coach Siboniso Vilakazi has divulged that his charges are looking forward to Sunday’s match against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

The two teams are set to clash in a KwaZulu-Natal Derby encounter at the King Zwelithini Stadium as Usuthu look to record their fourth consecutive victory in the DStv Diski Challenge.

“Coming into the game against Golden Arrows, we know it will not be an easy game because it is a KZN Derby match,” Vilakazi said.

“The mood is very good in the team and everyone is looking forward to playing in the derby. When looking at Golden Arrows they are also doing well and they want to finish in the top eight.”

Usuthu are coming into this match having secured a 1-0 win over Chippa United thanks to Sphamandla Zikhali’s solitary goal on March 18 and Vilakazi’s side is currently placed fourth on the league standings.

“We also have our own objectives, we want to finish in the top eight. We want to see how many points we will collect from the 24 that are available because we want to finish as high as possible,” he added.

“It is very good when you are coming from an away game having collected the maximum points and the players having displayed good effort.”

Vilakazi also provided an update on Usuthu starlets Wandile Shelembe and Rijul Pillay, while Onke Ncama is expected to miss the game against Arrows due to suspension.

“In terms of injuries and suspensions, Onke Ncama is out due to the red card he picked up, while Shelembe is still doing his rehabilitation,” he revealed.

“Pillay has been out for two weeks and we are now waiting for some feedback from the medical team regarding how he is doing, but he started training this week.

“We are quite happy with the performance of the team and with what we have achieved thus far this season.”

The match between AmaZulu and Arrows will kick-off at 12h00 pm.
