Usuthu eye Nedbank Cup quarters with Gallants win

AmaZulu FC will be keen to progress to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup when they face Marumo Gallants in the Round of 16 match at the Dr. Molemela Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 3:00 pm CAT.

Usuthu extended their unbeaten run to four matches across all competitions when they secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Gallants at home on 7 February in the Betway Premiership.

AmaZulu came close to winning the Nedbank Cup for the first time in 2010 when they were defeated in the final and they are looking to go all the way, and win this season’s competition.

“It is not going to be an easy one. It is different playing a team in the first and then the second round because there are games in between,” AmaZulu co-head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi said.

“But if you are playing a team this week and then again next week, it is never easy, so we will have to dig deep as a team. We will plan and watch some videos and stuff and come up with a strategy that should work for us.

“We are definitely going to have to come up with something they are not expecting.”

Meanwhile, Gallants are licking their wounds as they are winless in their last two matches across all competitions following their recent defeat to AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership encounter.

Siwelele Sa Marumo also came close to winning the Nedbank Cup for the first time in 2022 when they defeated in the final and they will be hoping this is the year they win the South African FA Cup.

AmaZulu will be without the services of the suspended Ethan Brooks, but Gallants have no suspension concerns coming into this cup clash.

Gallants will be boosted by the availability of Siyabulela Shai and Edson Khumalo after the duo completed their suspensions against AmaZulu last weekend.
