Usuthu eye first Group B win against Horoya

AmaZulu FC head coach Benni McCarthy

AmaZulu FC will go head to head with AC Horoya in the CAF Champions League Group B match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday.

Kick-off is at 21h00 CAT.

Usuthu marked their debut appearance in the group stage with a narrow 1-0 loss to Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca at Stade Mohamed V in Morocco last weekend.

Coach Benni McCarthy’s side did create chances on the night, but Makhehlene Makhaula and Thabo Qalinge were just unlucky not to find the back of the net.

The KwaZulu-Natal giants were able to hold five-time African champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo to a 0-0 draw in their last home game in this competition in October last year.

Usuthu will now be determined to make use of home ground advantage and claim their first-ever win home win in the Champions League when they face Horoya.

They will be up against a Horoya side that is wounded having suffered a slender 1-0 defeat to Algerian side ES Setif at the General Lansana Conté Stadium in Guinea last weekend.

The loss ended the Guinean giants’ five-match unbeaten run in the Champions League, but they secured a 1-0 win over Stade Mali de Bamako in their last away game in this competition on October 16.

Horoya and AmaZulu are placed fourth and third respectively on the Group B standings heading into matchday two and the winner between the two sides will move up the table.

In Head-to-Head terms, this will be the first-ever meeting between AmaZulu and Horoya.

Setif will host Raja in the other Group B match at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Algeria on the same day.
