AmaZulu FC star Sandile Mthethwa believes they deserved a win over Orlando Pirates in their final game of the season.
The KwaZulu-Natal giants wrapped up their campaign with a 1-1 draw with the Buccaneers in the Betway Premiership match on Saturday afternoon.
An own-goal by Patrick Maswanganyi handed Usuthu the lead, but Simphiwe Seleng snatched a late equaliser in a match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“Well, I think we played well and perhaps deserved to win, but unfortunately we didn’t,” Mthethwa, who was named Man of the Match, said.
The former Pirates central defender is pleased to have helped Usuthu secure a top-eight finish in the league after missing out on a top-three finish.
“But we’re still happy because we were able to achieve this season’s mandate after we realised we couldn’t get a top-three spot,” he added.
AmaZulu will compete in next season’s MTN8 after finishing sixth in the Betway Premiership and they are set to face Stellenbosch FC in a quarter-final clash.
