Usuthu clinch Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup Crown

AmaZulu FC clinched the inaugural Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup after defeating Richards Bay FC in the final on Saturday.

Usuthu had reached the final of the one-day pre-season tournament after defeating Zululand District XI in a semi-final match at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium in the morning.

The encounter ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time with Bonginkosi Ntuli scoring for Brandon Truter’s side and the KwaZulu-Natal giants went on to win 4-3 on penalties.

Therefore, AmaZulu faced Richards Bay in the final with the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) side having defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 4-2 on penalties in the other semi-final clash.

The game between Usuthu and Natal Rich Boys failed to produce goals in regulation time with neither side being able to find the back of the net and the encounter was decided by a penalty shootout.

Usuthu emerged as 4-2 winners on penalties in the final after the Durban side converted all four of their spot-kicks in another match which was played at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium.
