AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Richard Ofori has opened up about the stiff competition in the club’s goalkeeping department.
The Ghana international is competing with Darren Johnson, Olwethu Mzimela and Enrique Erasmus for the number one spot in coach Arthur Zwane’s side.
“It (competition) helps everyone to work hard and stay professional. It’s good that everyone is performing not just in the goalkeeping department but throughout the entire team,” Ofori said.
“Everyone is pushing each other to do better. One thing about football is that every player has their own abilities and strengths. When everyone plays, they bring something different. It’s a good challenge for the team.”
The 31-year-old made four appearances in the current season before he was sidelined by an injury and Johnson has done well between the sticks for Usuthu as the starting keeper.
“It means the team is doing well, and we have to keep pushing together. The most important thing is the badge. It’s bigger than all of us. This club has been here long before we came; it’s the oldest in the league,” Ofori added.
“We must respect the badge and fight for it. Whether there’s competition or not, whoever plays, we all have to pull in the same direction and win as a team.”
AmaZulu’s next match is against Chippa United in the Betway Premiership showdown, which is scheduled to be played at Buffalo City Stadium on November 1.
Kick-off is at 20h00.
