AmaZulu FC will face off with champions Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership match at Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday.
Kick-off is at 7:30 pm CAT
Usuthu snapped their four-match winless run in the league on Saturday as they emerged as 2-0 winners over Sekhukhune United at home.
The KwaZulu-Natal giants are currently placed 11th on the DStv Premiership standings – six points above the relegation zone and they need another win to secure their safety in the PSL for another season.
“The boys executed the plan very very well on the field [against Sekhukhune], and all the credit should go to the boys,” AmaZulu coach Ayanda Dlamini said.
“If you see the intensity that we played at in this game and the fighting spirit they showed once again was very very impressive.
“It was important that we get three points today because you might say Sundowns has won the league or whatever but that’s one of the most professional teams in the league and they take every game seriously.”
Meanwhile, Sundowns extended their winning run to three matches across all competitions when they claimed a 2-1 win over Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in a CAF Champions League clash at home on Saturday.
The Brazilians have already clinched this season’s DStv Premiership title having accumulated an unassailable 65 points from 27 matches.
“A couple of weeks ago we lost to [Stellenbosch] Stellies and we were the worst team, I was the worst Coach,” Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena said.
“This is football, you have to take the good moments just like you take the bad moments, not too high in the good moments, not too low on the bad moments.
“We have a 24-hour rule so we will enjoy the game, the feeling and then get rest and tomorrow we come in to clean the game from the system and we prepare for a very difficult match against AmaZulu.”
AmaZulu will be without Sphesihle Maduna who will be serving a two-match suspension after being sent off during the game against Sekhukhune.
