The goalkeeper impressed in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) for Usuthu’s reserve team and he was promoted to the club’s first team. Mzimela was part of the South Africa squad at the 2019 COSAFA Under-20 Championships in Zambia. He had a successful six-month loan stint at Durban City before returning to AmaZulu in June 2025.
