AmaZulu head coach Pablo Franco Martin has given his thoughts about the team’s season overall following the final day of the DStv Premiership.
Usuthu’s last match of the season was against Golden Arrows, the match was lost and this meant that the chance was missed for a Top 8 finish which was one of Franco Martin’s ambitions as the season came to a close.
The Spanish tactician described the season as one that had ups and downs, and admitted that his first season coaching the team didn’t exactly go as well as he had planned.
Speaking about the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) break, Franco Martin believes that the interruption of the season was not ideal.
“In the second part of the season after the AFCON, like most of the teams here, that break hurt us when we were in our element. From there it was difficult to go back to that level,” he said.
The coach feels that the team started off the second half of the season badly but they managed to bring themselves back up to speed in a matter of time.
“We started performing in the Nedbank Cup and we achieved quarterfinals. I think we played really well against Pirates at home,” he continued.
Franco Martin thinks Usuthu started doing better in the league but again when they had the opportunity to make it to a higher finish, they lost the opportunity.
