AmaZulu FC bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership when they secured a 2-1 win over SuperSport United in a match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.
As a result, Usuthu climbed up to the ninth spot in the league standings as they registered a second successive win across all competitions. The KwaZulu-Natal giants will be determined to make it three wins in a row when they take on Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday.
Usuthu saw most of the ball in the opening exchanges and they deservedly broke the deadlock in the 14th minute. Riaan Hanamub’s cross was poorly cleared by the Matsatsantsa defence and Rowan Human netted with a stunning strike to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu.
SuperSport grew gradually into the match and they managed to level matters in the 36th minute. Vincent Pule’s low cross found Siphesihle Ndlovu who netted from close range and the score was 1-1 at the interval following a lively first-half.
Pule was a thorn in the Usuthu defence and the experienced attacking midfielder came close to handing the visitors the lead 10 minutes into the second-half when his long-range effort hit the woodwork with keeper Richard Ofori well-beaten.
However, it was Pule’s former Orlando Pirates teammate Ben Motswari who grabbed the decisive goal with eight minutes left. Eventual Man of the Match Human set up Motshwari who netted with a powerful long-range shot that beat keeper Thakasani Mbanjwa hands down to hand AmaZulu a 2-1 win.
