It has been ten days since AmaZulu FC’s 2-1 home defeat to TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership, but midfielder Ben Motshwari remains confident that the team is on the right track as they continue their preparations during the international break.
Speaking to AmaZulufc.net after a friendly match against Motsepe Foundation Championship leaders Durban City at Chatsworth, the experienced midfielder emphasized the importance of using this period to refine their attacking play. Usuthu secured a 2-1 victory in the friendly, a result Motshwari believes will boost their confidence ahead of their next league fixture.
“It was crucial to use this FIFA break to sharpen our approach in the final third,” said the 34-year-old former Orlando Pirates player. “We’re one of the best teams in terms of final third entries, but now it’s about converting those chances into goals.”
Motshwari stressed that the team has been working hard on capitalizing on scoring opportunities and is determined to bounce back. “This week has been about fine-tuning our finishing and making the most of the chances we create. There’s always room for improvement, but I’m confident we’ll come back stronger against Chippa United.”
Despite consecutive league defeats, Motshwari insists there is no reason to panic, as the team remains focused on their objectives. “The morale in the squad is high. We’ve only lost two games back-to-back, and it’s not a crisis. Our targets are still within reach—we just need to stay focused and execute our game plan.”
AmaZulu have scored 26 goals this season but have also conceded 30, making them the second-worst defensive team in the league despite creating the most goal-scoring chances.
Arthur Zwane’s men will next face Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium in East London on March 29, before returning home for the KZN Derby against Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium.
