AmaZulu FC star Veli Mothwa is determined to win the DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season accolade.
The 31-year-old has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the country in the last few years and he has been nominated for the league award twice.
His exploits for Usuthu have seen him cement his place in the Bafana Bafana squad as the second-choice keeper behind national team captain Ronwen Williams of SuperSport United.
“It has been two seasons where I’ve been in the running for goalkeeper of the season and I haven’t been able to get it,” Mothwa said.
“This season I want to push myself so that I can get that award.
Mothwa was nominated for the award during the 2020-21 campaign and Mamelodi Sundowns captain Denis Onyango scooped the accolade.
The former Chippa United captain was then nominated for the 2021-22 award which was won by Hugo Marques of Cape Town City.
“I’m aware it is not going to be easy and I feel it’s going to be a difficult season because every DStv Premiership team has bolstered with new players, others with new management, and that means new tactics,” he added.
“But for me, I really want to win that award.”
AmaZulu are set to take on TS Galaxy in their opening DStv Premiership match of the 2022-23 season on August 7.
