Mothwa nominated for DStv Premiership award

AmaZulu FC star Veli Mothwa has been nominated for the 2021-22 DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season accolade.

The 31-year-old has been one of the most outstanding keepers in the local top flight in the current campaign having produced some eye-catching performances for Usuthu.

Mothwa, who is in his second campaign with the KwaZulu-Natal giants, has kept 14 clean sheets from 26 matches in the league this term.

Only Angola international Hugo Marques of Cape Town City has kept more clean sheets than Mothwa, having registered 15 from 28 matches.

The other player who has been nominated for this award is Toaster Nsabata of Sekhukhune United with the Zambia international boasting 11 clean sheets from 24 matches.

Mothwa was among the keepers who were nominated for this accolade last season having established as one of the best keepers in the country since he joined AmaZulu from Chippa United in 2020.

The Bafana Bafana international will be hoping to become the first AmaZulu player to win the accolade during the 2021-22 PSL awards ceremony on May 29.

The virtual awards ceremony will be held at 19h00 and will be live on the SuperSport PSL channel (202) and SABC.
