AmaZulu FC starlet Obama Mhlongo helped South Africa win the 2025 Under-20 African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games in Namibia.

Amajita were crowned champions after securing an emphatic 3-0 victory over Malawi in the final of the regional tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Coach Vela Khumalo’s side had reached the final after emerging as 2-0 winners over Angola in the semi-final on Friday.

Mhlongo had sealed South Africa’s 2-0 victory over Eswatini in their final Group B match on Wednesday as he displayed his impressive finishing ability.

Amajita picked up seven points from a possible nine in Group B as they claimed victories over Botswana and Eswatini, and a draw with Zambia.

Mhlongo and his South Africa teammates landed at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where they got a hero’s welcome on Monday.

The Usuthu attacker will be hoping to make Amajita’s final squad for the upcoming 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup finals.

The tournament will be hosted by Chile between 27 September and 19 October.
