Gabadinho Mhango leads the way for AmaZulu as far as goal scorers in the 2022-23 season are concerned, with the Malawian having netted five times across all competitions.
The 30-year-old former Bloemfontein Celtic, Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates player has struck four goals in the DStv Premiership and one in the MTN8.
Mhango scored three games running in the league in August, netting once each in a hat-trick of wins over SuperSport United (2-1), Cape Town City (2-1) and Swallows FC (3-2). He then endured something of a drought until October, when he netted in AmaZulu’s 1-1 away draw with Kaizer Chiefs in the first leg of their MTN8 semifinal tie, while his fifth goal overall came in a 1-1 league draw at home to provincial rivals Maritzburg United on October 19.
Mhango’s five goals have come from 13 appearances (entailing 1093 minutes of playing time) across the Premiership and MTN8, averaging out at almost 219 minutes of play per goal scored.
The only other Usuthu player who has scored more than once this season is Nigerian Augustine Kwem, who scored a goal each in 2-1 wins over Cape Town City in August (one in the league, one in the MTN8 quarterfinals).
AmaZulu’s remaining seven goals this season are spread amongst six players (plus one own goal from Swallows’ Thakasani Mbanjwa): Bonginkosi Ntuli (1 league), Mbongeni Gumede (1 league), Vuluyeke Zulu (1 league), Sphesihle Maduna (1 league), Lary Bwalya (1 league) and Lehlohonolo Majoro (1 MTN8).
