AmaZulu Football Club have roped in 22-year-old defensive midfielder and former SA U17 player, Mswati Mavuso on a free transfer with the view to add depth into the squad going into the remaining months of the 2022/23 season.
The Nelspruit-born player spoke to AmaZuluFC.net after putting pen to paper on his move that will keep him at Usuthu for just over two seasons.
“I am happy to join AmaZulu FC. I would like to thank management for the chance to join the club. AmaZulu is a team with a lot of ambition. I am quite happy to be here.”
“I would like to thank the coaches and the gents (teammates) for welcoming me well. I think so far so good. I am enjoying being here.”
The former Stellenbosch FC and Mbombela United man pointed out that his style of play is similar to that of Ghanaian international Michael Essien.
“I like to hold the ball and score goals from inside the box, like Essien. I am looking forward to contributing to the team. I would just like to urge the supporters to continue coming to the stadium to support us. We will also try our best to get them the results,” added Mavuso.
AmaZulu Head Coach Romain Folz spoke candidly of his latest recruit.
“We’re happy to have him, he’s going to bring more options for us in the midfield. He’s a young player, who’s good technically and has an impact physically. I think he’s going to gel well with the team,” said Folz.
Mavuso has also been of Mamelodi Sundowns youth academy, and Witbank Spurs. Most recently he played for Europa Point FC in Gibraltar.
Experienced defender, Thembela Sikhakhane has also signed an extension with the club for two more seasons.
