AmaZulu head coach Pablo Franco Martin has admitted that it has been difficult to keep his players mentally sharp as clubs wait for the commencement of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.

Franco Martin is gearing up to be in charge for his second season as President Sandile Zungu has backed him to complete their goals in terms of the club’s project.

The former Real Madrid assistant coach led Usuthu to an 11th-place finish last season, missing out on a top-eight slot by only two points, but is expected to assure improvement this season.

The league’s delay has caused some disruption for clubs but Martin has confidence in his team’s ability.

“I think the biggest challenge is for players to go such a long period without playing official games, which is what they like the most,” he told Independent Newspapers.

“For me as a coach, it is strange because it is the first time in my life I am going for two pre-seasons, but we are adapting to the situation by being positive and taking advantage of this extra time to prepare even better for the team.”
