AmaZulu FC left-sided player Mxolisi Kunene says they need to show their hunger and desire when they face Cape Town City on Saturday.
Usuthu will be away to the Citizens at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town in their penultimate match of the 2021-22 DStv Premiership season. Kick-off is at 15h00.
The KwaZulu-Natal giants are undefeated in their last five league games and Kunene, who can operate as a left-back and left-winger, is eyeing a win over City.
“The upcoming game against City is a very important game to us, even though we are playing away from home,” Kunene said.
“But I think it is possible that we can come back with maximum points because I think we are more than ready to go there and fight.
“We have to show the hunger and desire on the day.”
Kunene joined Usuthu from Maritzburg United in July 2021 after recovering from a long-term injury, but he found game time hard to come by under coach Benni McCarthy.
However, the 30-year-old has played in four of the five competitive matches since coach Brandon Truter took over the reins at Usuthu two months ago.
“It was not easy for me at all because I was out for too long. I was out for almost two years without playing,” he continued.
“But I am really happy to be back now and doing what I love the most and I would like to thank God. I am happy with the support which I get from my teammates and coaching staff.
“I am happy now because they are giving me a chance. I have been waiting for this chance to come and I’m just praying that I can grab this chance with both hands,” he added.
“Whatever the situation, I am ready to fight for my position in the team.”
A win for seventh-placed AmaZulu over City will elevate Usuthu to the fourth spot on the league standings if other results go their way.
