Sandile Khumalo of AmaZulu FC

AmaZulu FC defender Sandile Khumalo has stressed the importance of winning their match against Maritzburg United on Saturday.

The bragging rights will be at stake when the two teams clash in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Usuthu are coming into the match having claimed a 1-0 win over Baroka FC on April 6 and they will be looking to make it two wins in a row in the DStv Premiership when they face Maritzburg.

“This is a big match. Our preparations are on track. We have to continue from where we left off against Baroka,” Khumalo said.

“A derby match is very important. We have to win the game. The coach said we shouldn’t put ourselves under pressure. Yes, it is a derby match, but we shouldn’t put ourselves under pressure.”

KwaZulu-Natal Province has been hit by floods in the last few days, but Khumalo indicated that their preparations against Maritzburg are on track.

“Regarding our preparations, the rain did affect our preparations. However, everything is now on track as we have been training since yesterday,” the 24-year-old added.

“It is important to win this game, we need the three points in order to move to be in a good position on the log.

“We have to win our home games and we all know derby matches are very competitive. When we play against Golden Arrows and Maritzburg, we always want to be on top and win such games.”

AmaZulu are currently placed seventh on the DStv Premiership standings – four points behind sixth-placed Stellenbosch FC.
