AmaZulu FC defender Abbubaker Mobara has handed Usuthu a timely boost ahead of their final DStv Premiership match of the 2021-22 season.
Usuthu are set to take on Lamontville Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15h00.
Mobara has been in good form under coach Brandon Truter having been named Man of the Match following Usuthu’s KZN Derby matches against Maritzburg United and Royal AM.
Truter had to make changes to his starting line-up prior to AmaZulu’s 0-0 draw against Cape Town City at DHL Stadium last weekend due to Mobara’s absence.
“We lost Mobara for this game, a key player at this moment especially when we bring the ball out of the defence,” Truter said.
“We had to make a change and that also affected our front three with [Thembela] Sikhakhane dropping to right-back and [Mbongeni] Gumede moving to centre back.
“So, it affected us a bit regarding bringing the ball out of our defence,” the former Richards Bay coach continued.
“Look City put us under pressure with us missing Mobara. We missed his line-breaking passes, that is why we struggled to come out.”
AmaZulu media officer Brilliant Mkhathini has confirmed that Mobara has resumed training after recovering from flu with a KZN Derby clash against Arrows looming.
“He was training okay yesterday. He should be available it was just flu,” Mkhathini said.
Mobara has made seven appearances across all competitions for Usuthu having joined the club from Cape Town City in January this year.
