AmaZulu FC bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership when they claimed a 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday night.

As a result, Usuthu climbed up to the sixth spot in the standings after recording their seventh league win of the season. Vusumuzi Vilakazi and Arthur Zwane’s side will travel to the Free State Province to take on Gallants on 15 February in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 game.

Tshepang Moremi and Rowan Human created problems for Siwelele Sa Marumo’s defence from the first minute. Moremi was unlucky not to break the deadlock in the 18th minute when the speedy winger hit the woodwork with goalkeeper Washington Arubi well-beaten.

Usuthu pushed for the opening goal with the half-time break looming and they deservedly got it through Human in the 42nd minute. Moremi set up his partner-in-crime Human who made no mistake as he beat Arubi with a decent finish and AmaZulu were leading 1-0 at the interval in Durban.

The hosts did not sit back and defend after the restart as they continued to launch attacks. Gallants were punished by Wayde Jooste on the hour-mark as the experienced full-back beat Arubi with a header to make it 2-0 to AmaZulu with Riaan Hanambu providing the assist.

With eight minutes left, Gallants introduced Sekela Sithole and Thapelo Mokobodi as the visitors to at least grab two late goals to ensure that the game ended in a draw. However, AmaZulu stood firm at the back and ultimately, the match ended in a 2-0 win in favour of AmaZulu on the night.
