AmaZulu FC bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership match when they claimed a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale in Durban on Saturday afternoon.
Therefore, Usuthu moved up to the sixth spot in the league standings after registering their 11th victory of the season. Coach Arthur Zwane will be keen to mastermind a second successive win when Usuthu host Polokwane City on May 2.
Usuthu started the match brightly and they were able to test goalkeeper Edward Maova two minutes before the half-hour mark, and the Namibia international saved a long-range attempt from Ben Motshwari.
Maova was once again called into action in first-half stoppage time and this time, the former University of Pretoria star produced a decent save to deny Etiosa Ighodaro. The score was 0-0 at the interval in Hammarsdale.
Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi made a change 15 minutes into the second-half – introducing Siphesihle Msomi, who looked to make an immediate impact. The 26-year-old’s attempt was well-saved by keeper Richard Ofori in the 65th minute.
However, it was the visitors who snatched a late winning goal when Tshepang Moremi set up Ighodaro, who beat Maova with a header to hand AmaZulu a late 1-0 victory in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby encounter.
