Franco Martin calls for consistency following Richards Bay loss

AmaZulu FC Head coach Pablo Franco Martin

AmaZulu’s last match in the DStv Premiership ended as a 2-1 loss against Richards Bay as the team conceded their opponent’s winning goal in the dying minutes of the match.

Head coach Pablo Franco Martin feels that despite losing the match, Usuthu had a decent display and builded up play well. The team created chances but did not do a good job on capitalising on them.

“The first half was controlled by us, I think we did what we have to do,” he said.

“In the last three or four minutes of the first half, we took risks and we didn’t control the game.”

Franco Martin stated that they cannot afford to make those kinds of errors in matches and neither can other teams in the PSL.

“We conceded the equaliser in the last part of the game, instead of being patient and even if we are trying to be ambitious with the changes,” he said.

The coach feels that the team should have showed more composure and they could have had a different outcome.

“The lack of consistency that we are having for the whole season and not only a few games, that is impossible to overlook for [finishing in] higher positions.”

“Also, individually when you are making so many mistakes consistently, that means our level is what it is. We are trying to improve that.”

“I think we have improved from the beginning of the season but we are still far from the level of the teams that need to fight for these higher positions. We need to be more realistic, we need to be more humble.”

The team will be hoping for a better result in their next match, when they take on Stellenbosch in their next league clash at the Danie Craven Stadium.
