AmaZulu FC head coach Romain Folz pointed out that he was pleased with his side’s performance against Royal AM, but he lamented the refereeing mistakes.
Usuthu fought back to hold Thwihli Thwahla to a 1-1 draw in a DStv Premiership encounter which took place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.
Bonginkosi Ntuli cancelled out Ruzaigh Gamildien’s opening goal and Folz explained why he was disappointed with the officiating during the KwaZulu-Natal Derby encounter.
“We have nothing to do with the fact that we couldn’t win this game. Our performance was fine. We did all we could to win the game. We should have won 2-1,” Folz said.
“Even if it was an off-side by 10km, it was a handball before that, a clear one in the box. My problem here is that the fourth referee came to us and lied, saying he was communicating with the referee.
“When mistakes happen anytime, it’s not mistakes anymore.”
The French tactician admitted that his side conceded as a result of poor defending and he also stated that poor officiating affected Usuthu.
“The goal that we conceded was our fault… we did not defend well centrally; we opened a space for their striker to drop and to find a shooting situation without us stepping quick enough to block it,” he added.
“But again, two minutes after that, we created a chance and scored only for a goal to be disallowed. That changed the complexion of the game.”
AmaZulu will now lock horns with Chippa United on Sunday in a league clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Kick-off is at 15h30.
