Usuthu resume DSTV Prem campaign with draw

AmaZulu FC and TS Galaxy drew 0-0 in the DStv Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday night.

Therefore, Usuthu remained seventh on the league standings ahead of their CAF Champions League Group B clash against Algeria’s ES Setif on Friday.

Usuthu were determined to grab an early goal in the opening exchanges as they pressed the Rockets and Melusi Buthelezi was the busier of the two goalkeepers.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper saved Xola Mlambo’s left-footed shot at the near post, before denying Augustine Mulenga with a one-handed save.

Galaxy were looking to catch AmaZulu on the counter and they were presented with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock following a mistake by Tapelo Xoki at the back.

Orebotse Mongae was sent clear on goal by Xoki, but somehow the Galaxy winger placed his shot wide of the target with only keeper Veli Mothwa to beat and the score was 0-0 at half-time.

The Rockets were the better side after the restart and they managed to test Mothwa, who blocked Ethan Brooks at the near-post as the visitors registered their first shot on target.

Shane Roberts, who had been introduced by Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic at half-time, tried his luck from range and his low shot was well-saved by Bafana Bafana international Mothwa.

Ramovic’s counterpart Benni McCarthy decided to make changes as he introduced attack-minded quartet Bonginkosi Ntuli, Thabo Qalinge, Matarr Ceesay and Hendrick Ekstein.

However, the last chance of the game went to Galaxy in stoppage time and Roberts’ attempt from a free-kick was comfortably saved by Mothwa to ensure that the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
