AmaZulu FC star Hendrick Ekstein has revealed the story behind the number 27 on his back.
The experienced midfielder has donned jersey number 27 since he turned professional in 2014 as a Kaizer Chiefs player.
Ekstein also wore the jersey number during his time with Azerbaijan Premier League clubs Sabah and Sabail.
“The love behind number 27 is that when my mother passed away in 2007 it was on the 27th,” Ekstein said.
“So, the motive behind me wearing jersey number 27 is that my mother passed on the 27th and she was also buried on the 27th that’s why I love jersey number 27.
“Even the tattoos on my hand say it all.”
The 32-year-old player played 13 matches across all competitions for Usuthu during the 2022-23 season.
He netted his first-ever goal for Usuthu against Dondol Stars in a Nedbank Cup clash in March 2023.
