Did You Know – The History of AmaZulu Football Club

AmaZulu Football Club is a professional soccer club based in Durban, KwaZulu Natal and plays in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the top-flight of South African football.

Usuthu is one of the oldest clubs in the country and was formed by Zulu migrant workers in 1932. The team was originally called Zulu Royal Conquerors. In 1985, the National Soccer League was formed and AmaZulu entered a new phase of history under the guidance of Mr. David Dlamini.

In October 2020, businessman Sandile Zungu purchased AmaZulu from Patrick Sokhela and new ownership mapped out a 12-year plan that would see the team climb up the rankings and in stock.

In his maiden season as the owner of the club, Zungu saw the team finish second behind Mamelodi Sundowns and qualify for the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

AmaZulu is the seventh team from South Africa to progress beyond the preliminary stages of the competition.

The club trains and have their administrative offices at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and is currently coached by Spanish tactician Pablo Franco Martin.
