Despite an inspiring performance in the second half, AmaZulu were knocked out of the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup last Friday by Stellenbosch.
A goal in extra time from Stellies secured them a spot in the quarter-finals of the competition, leading to disappointment for Usuthu.
Co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusimuzi Vilakazi took charge of the team for the first time in this match, and even though the team didn’t make it, things look a bit more promising.
“We came into this game knowing what is at stake,” said Zwane following the result.
“We did our best coming into the game to make sure we get into the next round and unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.”
“For the fact that we were playing at home, we should have been the ones that dictated terms better than them. We reacted only after conceding the goal, it was like a wake-up call.”
Zwane also highlighted how AmaZulu has quality players, but they spent too much time trying to figure out how to gel instead of just going for it from the onset.
“We were on the front foot for the better half of the second half, and from there anything could have happened,” he continued.
“We know we could have done better and if we were lucky enough, we didn’t even have to go to extra-time.”
