AmaZulu FC Make First Big Signing Ahead of 2025/26 Season

AmaZulu Football Club have made their first major signing of the 2025/26 season—not on the pitch, but off it—with the announcement of a strategic partnership with the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

The groundbreaking memorandum of understanding (MOU) was officially signed on 2 July at the Steve Biko Open House, marking a significant milestone in the club’s efforts to entrench itself within the broader KwaZulu-Natal community.

“This is more than just a partnership,” said Usuthu CEO, Sinenjabulo Zungu-Ntuli, addressing members of the media, university staff, and key stakeholders. “It is a step forward in our mission to establish AmaZulu as a lifestyle brand that is embedded in the heart of the community.”

“What better way to do that than by collaborating with a higher education institution like DUT? We know that many football players struggle after their playing careers end. This partnership is about bridging that gap, creating meaningful pathways for both our players and the public. The beneficiaries will include our players and students alike.”

Professor Fulufhelo Netswera, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at DUT, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the mutual value of the collaboration.

“The partnership between DUT and AmaZulu FC is a meaningful one,” he said. “Our primary intention is for DUT students to benefit from this partnership. However, there are also clear advantages for the club’s players, who will have access to our academic programs—both full-time and through our short learning courses.”

“These courses can help players better manage their finances, carry themselves professionally, and gain critical life and career skills. In turn, AmaZulu FC’s presence can inspire our students, and who knows—some of them may go on to become part of the club in the future.”
With the MOU in place, AmaZulu FC and DUT are laying the foundation for a future where sport, education, and community development intersect to create lasting impact.

Excitement is building across all DUT campuses ahead of the 2nd Annual DUT Sports Day, set to take place on 22 August. The event will coincide with the university’s 21st anniversary celebrations, with AmaZulu FC set to play a significant role in the day’s supporting programme.

Also in attendance to lend their support were DUT Business School Director, Professor Pfano Mashau, and Dr Nkululeko Zungu from the university’s Community Engagement Office—underscoring the breadth of institutional commitment to this transformative partnership.
