One of AmaZulu’s brightest signings this season, Keegan Allan, has quickly settled into the heart of Arthur Zwane’s defence. The 25-year-old former Richards Bay man is gearing up for a stern test when Usuthu take on Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night in the Betway Premiership.
“Whenever you get the opportunity to play against a team like Sundowns, it’s exciting,” Allan said.
“They’ve been dominant for a number of seasons, they have top-quality players, and their results speak for themselves. But we continue to prepare as normal. We know what works for us, we know the quality in our squad, and hopefully we can put it all together on the day.”
The reigning Betway Champions will provide a huge test for Allan and his new teammates, but the defender will be hoping his strong start continues. He marked his Usuthu debut with the opening goal in the MTN 8 quarterfinal loss over Stellenbosch FC just over a week ago.
Allan cautioned against reading too much into Sundown’s recent league draw with Chippa United.
“If you look at their squad, it’s filled with national team players and some of the highest-quality footballers this country has to offer. Their performances and results over the years are proof of that. But again, we know our strengths, and for us it’s all about approaching the match with the best possible attitude and mindset.”
On finding his feet in Durban, Allan credited his smooth transition to the warm welcome he’s received.
“I’ve been welcomed wonderfully by all the staff and players. I’m loving every moment of being here — it’s a great privilege. Long may it continue.”
